Due to the overwhelming interest in our W12P Eurovision in Wales grand final show Oystermouth Radio's Programme Controller and talk show host Grant Eden is joining regular W12P Show host Joel Bennett for two hours of the very latest events in Malmo as Mumbles most high profile music resident Bonnie Tyler attempts to bring Eurovision glory to Wales.
W12P Wales in Eurovision has been around for a year now and its really fitting that Bonnie is representing Mumbles as are we after thirteen months of Oystermouth Radio's commitment to supporting the largest single music broadcast event in the world.
Joel is used to performing to a large listening audience at the regular 8.00 p.m Thursday evening slot (repeated accordingly to suite our listeners in the Americas) who will be tuning in to this special show this Saturday at 5:00 p.m GMT for the two hours leading up to the Final. It will also be repeated a little later at 1:00 am on Sunday morning for those who may have been out during the evening. Regular listeners to W12P learn a great deal about Mumbles & Gower, Swansea & Wales as well as the very latest Eurovision news and tracks.

The W12P show's listening base is drawn by internet listeners from the UK and across the whole of Europe, Oceana, Far and Middle East, USA and Canada and particularly strong is our presence in Central and South America in such locations as Mexico, Peru, El Salvador, Honduras, Columbia, Panama and Chile.
Now, through the fever pitch response to Bonnie taking part in this years Eurovision extravaganza, interest has catapulted throughout the Mumbles and wider Swansea communities, Wales and the UK in the W12P show which is one of only two UK based Radio Shows dedicated exclusively to the Eurovision Song Contest.
Oystermouth Radio's Grant Eden has joined the W12P show for this 'one off' Eurovision Party Show offering the world an insight into the community while Joel will bring all the Eurovision knowledge that curious folk in the UK may or may not already be aware of especially to the many people who will be tuning in on Saturday for the first time.

The Saturday Show is the most exciting piece of radio work that I have ever been involved in. I like showing off. That's why I do what I do. Most of all, I like showing off the community that allows me to do this from in the country that I love. We are but a very small piece in the cog that makes Wales revolve but a fast moving cog in the Eurovision time piece in both the UK and now overseas. Working with Grant is a rare privilege as we always manage to bounce off each other and while I can't wait to connect to a large community audience for the first time I am also looking forward very much to the W12P Eurovision in Wales audience meeting Grant for the first time. Some of the highlights of Saturday's W12P Eurovision in Wales Party Show apart from the tracks from the final, a giggle or two possibly with Becky and Krista but definitely with Yorgi and very definitely between Grant and Joel, as well as updates on our partners at the Flying The Flag Charity for Leukemia and Lymphoma research, news from Eurovision Parties in Mumbles and Castle Square Swansea; and special features a brief message from Bonnie Tyler direct from Malmo (although we are hoping for an interview opportunity on Friday), an acoustic set and interview from Cascada recorded on Monday from Malmo, an interview with Anouk from Malmo and further interviews with France Amandine Bourgeois from Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam and Contest favourite, Denmark's Emillie de Forest from The London Eurovision Review in Soho.

W12P has worked very, very hard within the Eurovision movement which has resulted in audience levels averaging at 3,000 listeners per month which does not include podcasts which are held on the server of Radio International in the Netherlands or those from Smart Phone users.

This has resulted in a hugely talented team of people across Europe working closely together, pooling our resources and just some of the people who are in Malmo sending W12P material, some of which you can listen to on Saturday, includes the hugely experienced German born Jeurgen (J.P) Boering from Radio International in the Netherlands and his team consisting of Eric and Bert from Belgium and The Netherlands respectively, Lillian Brunell from Sweden and David Mann and Nikkie Allen from England and representing W12P from a fan perspective ahead of his first show as co host with Joel is Welsh speaking actor and broadcaster Glen Bartlet from Swansea.

One Surprise But No Shocks At Eurovision Semi Final One

Well, that was different. A change from the massive stage and mega effects and a more intimate production. David Mann of Eurovision Norwich who is reporting for W12P, alongside JP and the Radio International team, had already told us over the weekend that the arena is a lot smaller than those of Baku (2012) and Dusseldorf (2011). Earlier today David also told us that the sound quality inside the arena would not be quite to the same standard as in recent years but like Swedish Television and the EBU had announced Malmo 2013 was going to be one for the TV Audience and that it certainly was.
One could not but help (one meaning of a certain age) noticing a kind of retro feel to the delivery of Semi Final One in front of 11,500 fans. Apparently Swedish TV were at one stage contemplating making the event a standing room only show but the idea had (thankfully for me on a personal level) been scrapped.

The stage and production set up with a standing audience around the stage couldn't help us but think that this would be extremely beneficial to a band - dare we say one with a female singer - and of course Bonnie Tyler who is the UK's representative in Malmo sprung to mind, particularly when the production reminisced legendary UK music show Top Of The Pops which of course Bonnie has made so many appearances on.
In the UK we were treated to Loreen and the mixed ability choir with a moving rendition of last years classic winning entry Euphoria which led into the excellent solo host and top Swedish comedienne Petra Mede.
Unfortunately we had to endure BBC's Scott Mills occasionally unnecessary voice over but the addition of American Scissor Sister Ana Matronic whose Serbic roots shone brightly through the usual BBC diatribe came as a rare and welcome commentary treat. The Mills led interval interviews however were a nightmare with guests Dr Paul Jordan aka Doctor Eurovision treating his slot as a political swipe at Belarus (the BBC is a large organisation with programming designed to accommodate such remarks) and the tedious loud mouth Julia Zemiro the Australian commentator who tries so hard to be hilariously hip and funny and fails badly. Poor Loreen, the third guest. Upon being asked to sing a part of Anouk's Birds while an interval act was performing away loudly in the background I just wondered do the BBC ever, ever learn. Enough. The Show.

First up was Austria's Natalie Kelly whose nervous start was clear for all to see but managed to hold her voice well and she grew in confidence as her set progressed but 'Shine' it did not and the Brazilian/Irish Austrian former Kiddie Pop band Gimmie Five member found her way on the plane home to Rio/Dublin or Vienna.
Friend of the W12P show and last weeks requester on the listeners choice show Estonia's Birgit Oigemeel beautifully sung her way into the first half of the draw for Saturday's final. Slovenia's Hannah Mancini quickly followed and lived up to her 200 - 1 bookmakers odds with a weak vocal and uninspiring performance only equaled by Croatia's Klapa S who had the voices but not the song and both joined Natalie Kelly in the Eurovision recycling unit for (hopefully) just another year.

Emillie de Forest booked her grand final slot (Second half of the draw) for Denmark with an assured performance but one that annoyed more than entertained. Staring with the big Celtic drums Emillie sat and squatted, bare footed, in a very Loreen type (last years winner) culminating in a finale which saw a coloured light shower engulfing her which was also very reminiscent of Ellie and Nikki's 201 winning performance. Lots of gimmicks and an audience half - full of her own Danish supporters created an addition to a song which I am now beginning to tire of.
The big back to back clash saw Russia's Dina Garipova sing her composition perfectly and was followed by the much talked about Zlata Ognevich whose vocal performance was outstanding. It seemed that everyone waited with baited breath as to how Zlata's 'Disneyescque' styled video was going to be recaptured on the Malmo stage. The answer was to hire an extremely large man, dressed as a giant and carry Zlata onto a rock in a fairy garden and leave her to it. Unnecessary? Well, the Eurovision jury isn't still out as they put Zlata through to the Grand Final (second half) draw but the W12P jury remains locked. That bit of nit picking may be the difference between winning or second place - just ask Emillie de Forest and her team. Dina Garipova made it into the Grand Final (second half). Nice.
Anouk saved The Netherlands from another year locked in Eurovisions Room 101 with their first qualification since 2004 but I for one was not one of the 'cool' people who went on about Anouk as if she was the only singer at last nights show with any real credibility. In fact, while I really like the song the performance was as thin as a crisp and I couldn't help but term as nondescript.
Another strange one was Alyona Laskaya. I'm not going to give Dr. Eurovision's comments any more space but for me the Belaruss delegation just about had it all wrong. It was a big night for the former Soviet Union as all six competitors from 'the hammer' of old managed to qualify as did Alyona with her 260 inch heels.

Then, we are incidentally out of sync here so we can draw comparisons, Ireland's Ryan Dolan performed a predictable 'big drum' number in 'Only Love Survives' concluding Semi Final One's grand final second half draw and the evenings biggest surprise in Lithuania's Andreus Pojavis who somehow and still I am seeking justification, even the slightest little teeny bit, as to how on earth this song was selected to go further in the competition. Please let me know through the contact page here or Social Media as nobody else seems to know either.
Montenegro's dub stepper Who See provided a really entertaining performance but it was always an iffy punt at qualification and they joined Croatia in what is soon sadly (in our opinion) to be a very full Balkan recycling bin this year. Serbia were last up and straight in to said receptacle in a curious performance. Yes, let's just say that it was curious. Serbia surely can't be happy with what the Moje 3 girls delivered as the song itself is quite catchy. There may be an inquiry as Serbia's short Eurovision history has produced so many high quality songs, performers and performances but not tonight.
Despina Olympiou sang beautifully but failed to sway the vote but Robert Belarusso did although I find the song extremely average. That with the most strange choreography for the young Belgian's backing dancers concludeds our review of the evenings events except of course for this:
In W12P's opinion Moldova's Aliona Moon, backed by composer and performer of last years wonderful grand final song Latour, Pasha Pomferey on piano, produced the performance of the night with O Mie (A Million). A simple yet extremely effective bit of special effects and a wonderful vocal by Aliona made it our star choice for the night.
To sum it all up I would say that this years contest may not be as strong as last years in song quality but like I always remind myself, 'we say this every year' and I have a strong feeling that the Grand Final may well deliver something that Eurovision fans have been denied for many years and that is a true, nail chewing, climax at the voting stage.

If you like Eurovision then you will know what we mean. There is an itchy period around about tea time on Saturday that lasts up until the Final starts at 8:00 p.m GMT. A time when your Eurovision itch needs a tickle and that is exactly what we will be doing this Saturday 18 May at W12P Wales in Eurovision.
We have gone to great lengths to make sure that everyone gets the chance of listening to the very latest news and interviews from the Malmo Arena, as well as your chance to hear the Final playlist right up until the Contest starts.

W12P Wales in Eurovision has been represented at Eurovision since the Press Centre opened on 6 May 2013 and our close friends Jeurgen (JP) Boering of our Sister station Radio International in the Netherlands and David Mann, our regular reporter from Eurovision Norwich, have ben busy interviewing all of this years contestants exclusively for us here at W12P. The team has also been joined by photographer Nikkie and interviewers Eric and Bert from the Netherlands and Belgium.

Terrific boost for W12P as Glen Bartlett joins the team

W12P Eurovision in Wales thought we had it all covered with our seemingly overnight success across Europe and particularly in Central and Southern America. That, plus a listenership of thousands and representation at Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam, The London Eurovision Review in London and The Eurovision Song Contest itself, this year in Malmo when a by chance meeting lead to yet another massive boost for the Oystermouth Radio show hosted and managed by Joel Bennett.
This boost came by way the introduction of Swansea Student and actor Glen Bartlett who will be joining the Team as a show presenter from the end of May.
Glen is a fluent Welsh speaker from Swansea here in Wales and a massive Eurovision fan. Currently Glen is a student but of even further interest is that Glen not only has broadcasting experience but is an actor and his experience includes those as a presenter for the Welsh version of Songs of Praise; Dechrau Canu dechrau canmol. Also acting experience with Gwaith/Cartref (Welsh Waterloo Road), Pobol y Cwm (Welsh Eastenders) and also a BAFTA nominated short film, entitled Tent Boy which Glen starred in alongside the highly acclaimed James Bolam star of iconic movies Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner and UK Television comedy classic The Likely Lads.

Yes, the one before the big one, before the other big one, before the final one for Season One is upon us . . the W12P listeners show - and what a task it has been.
Tomorrow (Thursday) night at 8.00 p.m it starts and no less than 27 of your favourite all time Eurovision Song Contest entries are being played in 120 glorious; Schlager Packed, Popped Up, Rocked Out, Disco Danced, Power Balleded minutes.
Only we know the final playlist and we are busy contacting our requestees ahead of the show and what a cracking Gig it is.
We have received requests from such Global Eurovision bases as Panama, El Salvador, Australia, USA, Canada, Azerbaijan and almost the whole of Europe . . . ooh and China too! When we say 'sold out' you can of course listen live tomorrow (Thursday) at 8.00 p.m.
